Rookies

What is Rookies?
Rookies is a great way to introduce young children to swimming in a laid-back, non-competitive environment with hands-on coaching.

Who is eligible?
Rookies is for children age 3-5 (as of May 31st of the current year).

When are the practices?
Rookie practices can be found on our Practice Schedule page. There is free swim 9-10:30 on Donut Days - the morning after the team has a meet.

What if my child can't swim?
We have plenty of Rookies that start off the season in floaties! Coaches will be in the water with them, giving them instruction and providing daily exposure to swimming.

What about swim meets?
Rookies do not compete in meets. We will have a meet just for our Rookies on at the end of the season so they can have the experience of swimming the length of the pool to a cheering crowd and receiving their hard earned swim trophy. Parents of rookies are exempt from volunteer requirements at the meets, because rookies do not swim in the meets.

Does my child need a swim team bathing suit?
Nope.

What's the swim diaper situation?
Per the club rules of Hampton Farms, all swimmers 4 and under must wear a swim diaper. These are sold online at Amazon and in person at Atlanta Swim Academy.

What's the registration fee?
Due to the high staffing needs during the Rookie swim practices - the registration is the same as swim team.

Rookie Behavior Expectations
Rookies are expected to listen to the coaches in the water, respect the other swimmers and show minimal disruptions throughout the practice. Parents of rookies are expected to help enforce these expectations and encourage appropriate and safe behavior.
